What You Need to Know About Campus Traffic Detours

What's New: As part of ongoing efforts to improve campus accessibility, expect construction and traffic detours as the university crews install new concrete sidewalks and ADA ramps along Packard Avenue on the Medford/Somerville campus through Wednesday, August 9. Additionally, expect a number of paving projects through Wednesday, August 9.

Why It Matters: From labs and classrooms to student housing, athletics facilities, and campus grounds, construction and design projects at Tufts aim to support the university's mission by fostering innovation and collaboration, community, accessibility, and sustainability.

What To Expect: During these construction projects, please anticipate uneven surfaces, temporary sidewalk closures, and traffic detours.

  • Sidewalk Construction, 8/4-8/9: Packard Ave will remain one-way with traffic traveling uphill from Professors Row. No downhill traffic will be permitted from the Residential Quad or Dowling Hall -- all traffic will be routed down Capen Street Extension to Winthrop Street.
  • Road Paving Construction, 8/4-8/9: Milling and paving will take place on Talbot Avenue, Latin Way, Carmichael Parking Lot, Bendetson Parking Lot, Packard Avenue, and Sawyer Avenue according to the schedule below, which is subject to change depending on weather conditions.
    • 8/3-8/5: Bendetson Parking Lot Closed
    • 8/3-8/4, 8/7: Sawyer Avenue Closed
    • 8/3-8/5: Expect road closures and detours along Lower North Hill Road and Packard Avenue
    • 8/7-8/9: Expect closures and detours along North Hill Road and Packard Avenue and closures at Bendetson Parking Lot
