TO: Faculty and Staff, All campuses

FROM: Office of the President

As Tufts’ Chief Academic Officer, the Provost and Senior Vice President plays a unique role in advancing our academic mission and strategic vision. In February, Union College announced that Tufts Provost and Senior Vice President David R. Harris would become its 19th President; Deborah Kochevar, Dean of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine since 2006, is currently serving as Tufts’ Provost and Senior Vice President ad interim. A search for the next permanent Provost and Senior Vice President of Tufts University is now underway.

President Monaco has formed a Provost Search Committee comprising an outstanding group of faculty, staff, and students and one member of the Tufts Board of Trustees. One of the Search Committee's first tasks is to create opportunities for consultation with faculty and staff. To this end, three town hall meetings with the Search Committee have been scheduled. Faculty and staff are invited to participate in these town hall meetings and share their aspirations for the university, the critical challenges ahead, the qualities most important in Tufts' next Provost, and the standards for judging success. The town hall meeting schedule is as follows:

  • Medford/Somerville Campus: Tuesday, May 22, 9-10:30 am, Coolidge Room, Ballou Hall
  • Grafton Campus: Tuesday, May 22, 12-1:30 pm, Agnes Varis Lecture Hall, Hospital for Large Animals
  • Boston Campus: Tuesday, May 22, 3-4:30 pm, Behrakis Auditorium, Jaharis Family Center

Input from members of the university community will be critical to the success of the search. If you are unable to attend one of the town hall meetings or would prefer to submit your input in writing, please feel free to e-mail the Search Committee at or use the comment form on the Provost Search website.
