General Description
PostService messages are used to communicate university business and policy announcements, such as a new or amended university policy or practice, a new hire or reorganization where the individuals involved have university-wide impact, or other broadly relevant information.
PostService messages are sent out in a weekly e-mail to all Tufts faculty and staff each Wednesday by the University Relations department. In the weekly e-mail, each announcement is addressed to the appropriate campus(es).
Guidelines
PostService is to be used for university business only.
PostService requests must be made by a Tufts employee and include an employee name, which will be included at the beginning of the announcement.
Requests must be submitted by Tuesday at 12p.m. for inclusion in the following day's PostService email. When the volume of requests is high, University Relations may hold announcements that are not time sensitive until the following week.
PostService is not an emergency broadcast system; all approved announcements will be sent on Wednesday. In rare cases, University Relations may approve an individual announcement for delivery outside of the weekly email.
While attachments cannot be sent with PostService emails, users may include links to files posted on their department website.
Other Information
Event Announcements
PostService messages generally do not include event-related announcements, although there are rare exceptions for events that are relevant to the majority of the university community. Instead, event listings can be submitted to the Tufts University events calendar via an online events submission form.
School-Specific Announcements
PostService messages cannot be used for messages intended for a single school. However, you may use our online request form, and your request will be forwarded to the appropriate school representative. Just select "Specific School or Central Administration only" from the dropdown list next to "Main Recipient" on the online request form.
Distribution of Printed Materials
The Mail Services department can assist with distributing printed materials related to university business to employees through campus mail. They can distribute your mailing to each employee or each department. If you wish to send a mailing to selected employees, the HR Service Center can generate mailing labels for campus distribution.
Restrictions
Neither PostService nor other university mail/email distribution methods will be used to further a political position, endorse a product or service, or raise money for other organizations (with the exception of the Tufts Community Appeal). These are examples only. University Relations reserves the right to approve, deny, or limit use of these services.
Tufts Emergency Alert System
In an emergency the university will attempt to communicate with the community through a variety of methods. Use of the latest available technology provides us with several ways to reach community members through public postings, information hotlines, and an Emergency Alert System integrating telephone, text messaging and email.
