- ELECTRICAL POWER SHUTDOWN NOTICE
Saturday, May 25, 2013 from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Rain Dates: May 26th and May 27th from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.
This is a reminder from the Medford/Somerville Campus Facilities Services Department.
On Saturday, May 25, 2013 there will be a complete electrical shutdown from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. This shutdown will only affect the Medford/Somerville Campus. If it rains on Saturday, May 25th, the work will be performed Sunday, May 26th or Monday, May 27th.
The shutdown is conducted annually to perform required preventative maintenance on the main electrical grid and associated switching equipment, as well as performing needed upgrades.
This work greatly enhances the reliability of the critical electrical equipment on campus.
All buildings on the Medford/Somerville campus will be affected EXCEPT the following:
TAB, all wood frame houses, Bacon Hall, 196/200 Boston Ave, 520 Boston Ave, Facilities Garage, Eliot-Pearson Admin/School, CEM, Cousens Gym, Gantcher Center, Halligan Hall, Hooper Infirmary, 4 Colby St. (Sci & Tech), 66 Colby St., 80 George St. (Dame School), 51 & 58 Winthrop St.
The following communication services WILL NOT be available during the electrical shutdown:
-Tufts Network Access WILL NOT be available from any building that will be shut down and does not have generator back-up. The rest should have service as usual, including accessing services from off-campus.
Finally, for all buildings affected by the electrical shutdown, it is strongly recommended to:
Power off and unplug all PCs, monitors, printers, refrigerators, room air conditioners, and answering machines before departing Friday, May 24, 2013. There is NO need to unplug Network Connections. Please remove all food items from refrigerators.
To date, Facilities Services is planning to provide stand-by generators for the following locations:
Anderson telecom room, Blakeley Hall, Miller Hall telecom room, Pearson/Michael.
The following installed generator equipment will also be operating:
Dowling Hall (Police Station), South Hall (Life Safety), Cabot (Life Safety), Barnum/Dana,
Tisch Library (telecom only). Dewick-McPhie (Life Safety), Ballou Hall, West Hall and Gifford House will be generated from the Barnum/Dana Generator. The SIS building has a generator in place.
Laboratories with fume hoods must plan to remove experiments from the fume hood.
